Who we are

First and foremost we are parents, and like all parents, we want only to provide a safe and healthy environment for our children. Secondly, we try to be Eco-minded and responsible human beings, as we all need to do our best to conserve and protect our planet.

As a professional hair and makeup artist based in Melbourne Australia, a few years back I took it upon myself to rethink my attitude to the makeup and hair products I used in my kit. I had been a vegetarian for years for ethical reasons, and I was also very interested in all the natural and organic products that were becoming more readily available. I did research into the common ingredients used in the majority of cosmetics and hair products, and how dangerous and toxic many ingredients were, and how they can adversely affect our health. I converted my kit, so I now use on my clients, only the safest, cruelty free and natural products that I can source. This led me to my current position as Director of PR for the Australian non-profit organization www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au and I have also done some freelance PR work for other natural and cruelty free companies, such as Aromababy and Elusyion Mineral Makeup.

With the arrival of the first of our two children, it was only natural for me to want to make sure that the products we used on her, and the toys and equipment we bought for her, were safe, both for her and where possible for the environment . My husband and I took it upon ourselves to research each and every product before we purchased it, and we were  completely amazed and quite frankly appalled, at the amount of products out there on the shelves that were marketed for babies, toddlers and children that were anything but safe, never mind being Eco-friendly! We discovered that if a product doesn’t fall under the category of being a food or medical product, or it doesn't cause immediate or obvious harm to our health, then it is able to be sold to the unaware consumer.

We created Living Safe so that we could share what we have learned with all parents, and give them the tools to make informed choices when it comes to what they purchase for their children. We know it can be very daunting and misleading when trying to select good quality and safe products for our children, we have dealt with it first hand and it has taken us countless hours of research for us to be able to create this site.  We believe strongly that the brands and information we have listed on our site, to be the best, healthiest and where possible, environmentally friendly choices available.

It is our hope that parents will find our research informative and enlightening, and endeavor to apply to their lifestyles and in the raising of  their children the beneficial information featured here at Living Safe..
