The new Eco Tan Natural Coconut Sunscreen Lotions were a couple of products that I was seriously excited to trial and review.
Eco Tan Natural Coconut Sunscreen Product Review
For years I have been on the lookout for an Australian made, natural sunscreen that ticks all my LivingSafe.com.au health and safety boxes, as well as a brand that had also been accredited by Choose Cruelty Free.
Up until Eco Tan released their new sunscreen range, the only sunscreen I felt I could confidently recommend as truly cruelty free, safe and natural, was a USA brand called Badger Balm, but unfortunately this sunscreen, although accredited cruelty free by Choose Cruelty Free is currently only available online from the States.
Well now we Aussie’s have our own safe, natural and most importantly nanoparticle free sunscreen range that is made from natural ingredients, with the key ingredient for sun protection being ZINC OXIDE. So a big thank you to Sonya Driver for taking the initiative to create these products!
The ingredients in Eco Tan’s sunscreens actually work as a physical barrier between your skin and the suns rays, as opposed to a synthetic mix of potentially dangerous ingredients that are nano-particle in size, (meaning that they can penetrate below the skin’s surface and enter our bloodstream) and some of these ingredients can have negative chemical reactions when exposed to sunlight.
This reaction is because some of the ingredients used in synthetic sunscreens are photo-unstable, meaning they no longer remain in a stable state when exposed to sunlight.

One thing that takes getting used to when swapping over to natural barrier sunscreens like Eco Tan Natural Coconut Sunscreens are that they are thicker and they are not clear in colour. That being said, you soon get used to applying them and the protection they offer your skin and your health is well worth the extra effort it takes to rub them onto the skin.
The Eco Tan Sunscreens are however lovely and smooth, super moisturizing and a lot thinner than the Badge Balm sunscreens. They also have the added benefit of the skin nourishing and healing properties of coconut oil.
I also love how Eco Tan have the Natural Skin Tone Lotion option, as it is far less noticeable on your skin if you have neglected to rub your suntan lotion in properly and evenly. It also blends better with your natural skin tone and doesn’t leave a slightly whitish hue to the skin. So for woman it is perfect for daily use as a tinted, high SPF 30 face cream.
I am also a big fan of Eco Tan’s self tanning ranging as a safer, healthier option for those wanting to bronze up – have a read How To Fake Tan Safely And Naturally Using Cruelty Free Products.
