The other positives to making your own home-made, vegan, ice-cream is that it is also much more humane and environmentally friendly than buying ice-cream confectionery products. There is no wasteful packaging and no over-milked, mistreated, factory farmed, dairy cows involved.
You will need a blender or stick blender with a powerful motor, some “safe plastic” ice-cream molds, we found our polypropylene (pp or #no.5) plastic icy-pole molds at IKEA. If you are using a stick blender you will also need a tall stainless steel milkshake cup.
The night before you intend to make your ice-creams you will need to prepare your banana’s so they are frozen. The best way to do this is to peel them and break or cut them into 1 inch pieces and toss them into a polypropylene plastic Tupperware container and pop then into the freezer till they are frozen.
Banana Coconut Cream Ice-Cream Recipe
Ingredients – fills between 12 -15 IKEA ice-cream molds
3 Organic Frozen Banana’s
3/4 of a tin of Organic Light Coconut Cream – if you can find Coconut Cream that is tin free, then even better as no exposure to BPA
1 Tablespoon of Organic Maple Syrup or Organic Coconut Syrup if you like it sweeter, but this is not necessary as if you use ripe banana’s the ice-cream mixture will be sweet enough.

Organic Banana, Cacao and Coconut Milk Ice-Creams – Less Creamy Version
Ingredients
2 frozen Frozen Banana in pieces
2 tablespoons of Raw Organic Cacao Powder ( we like Power Super Foods cacao)
1 cup of Organic Coconut Milk
Organic Strawberry, Banana and Coconut Milk Ice-Creams
Ingredients
1 frozen Organic banana
1 cup of frozen Organic Strawberries
1 cup of Organic Coconut Milk
Method for all recipes:
If you are using a jug blender then it is super easy, throw all ingredients into the jug and blend till smooth and creamy, pour into icy-pole molds leaving a small amount of space at the top so it doesn’t overflow when you pop in the ice-cream stick with the lid attached.
If you are using a stick blender with a milkshake beaker then first add in your coconut cream, then add and blend a piece or two of frozen banana at a time, so as not to burn out the motor on your stick blender.
Once all mixed together taste mixture and if needed, add a little sweetness by mixing in 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of Organic Maple Syrup or Coconut Syrup
For Chocolate Popsicles – now blend in the cacao powder, maple syrup and rice milk.
Pour into icy-pole molds as above and freeze.
*Tip- it is good to taste the mixtures to make sure they are the right taste you want, especially when using pure Cacao Powder as it can be a little bitter.
*Tip- to get ice-creams out of icy-pole molds, run under hot water for a minute, but do not get the ice-cream part wet!
