The Vitamix 2500 A Truly Amazing Blender
When Raw Blend sent us our Vitamix 5200 I was very excited. This is a kitchen appliance I had wanted for years and years and although I love my Barmix Stick Blender, nothing can compare with the power and functionality of a Vitamix. But one of the most important things is that the Vitamix 5200 is completely BPA Free. This is one of the very few professional strength blenders on the market that are polycarbonate free, which means no harmful BPA leaching out into your food.
The Vitamix 5200 is also PVC free (note: some of the Vitamix professional range blenders do feature a PVC base, but this does not come in contact with the food). The Vitamix 5200 containers and measuring cap are made out of Eastman Tritan Copolyester, a new type of plastic that has replaced BPA and so far seems safe. The lid is made from rubber and the base is made from fire retardant ABS and thermal set polyester. The very useful Vitamix Tamper is made out of Polypropylene (pp #no.5).
It comes with a Wet Container and you can also get a Dry Container to ground your own flours, nuts and mix up cake, biscuit and bread batter.
Raw Blend is the original Australian distributor for Vitamix and they are committed to teaching people about the health giving benefits of raw blended food. Because the Vitamix 5200 is such a powerful machine it is able to pulverize to a smooth liquid even whole carrots and therefore you get to consume not just the juice of the carrot but the entire flesh of the carrot.
Plants have a tough, hard to digest, cell wall and when you pulverize it down (like the high speed blades of the Vitamix can do), you are actually breaking this wall down and releasing the phyto-nutrients so you get all the health benefits of the entire vegetable or fruit, but it is much easier for your digestive system to process. On a personal note I find if I eat too many raw carrots I get stomach pain, but if I liquefy the carrots and drink them, I do not have any issues.
When our Vitamix 5200 arrived the first thing I made was using the Wet Container and it was a super healthy, organic smoothie for my kids. I added a heap of spinach, a cup of frozen blueberries, a banana and some almond milk. To be honest I was a little bit skeptical as to whether the spinach would be pulverized enough so as to not be detected by my super-sleuth, hate any bits in their drinks, children, but in under 60 seconds I had succeeded. Next I made an organic ice-cream treat in the Vitamix in around 30 seconds, literally! I added a few tablespoons of organic vanilla yoghurt with a cup of mixed organic frozen berries and the kids, my husband and I just lapped it up.
Following this success I couldn’t wait to put the Vitamix Dry Container to the test. This container has a specialized blade that is designed to grind dry grains and knead dough. Being a fructose, lactose and gluten intolerant vegetarian, I have been buying expensive organic wheat alternatives to bake with and really wanted to try making my own flours to keep costs down. So into my Vitamix Dry Container went a couple cups of organic whole oats and within around 30 seconds I had oat flour. I then blended some activated organic almonds into almond meal and some raw sugar down into a fine sugar that would be better to use in my baked goods. Following this I have experimented with blending gluten free flour blends, made gluten free pizza dough, gluten free bread and ginger bread kids biscuits and they have all come out light and evenly baked, which is honestly a first for me! Before I had the Vitamix I did everything by hand in a bowl with a fork, as I didn’t have a blender that could knead dough.
Since then I have made various healthy treats including making hot soup in my Vitamix, using whole organic raw vegetables, nutritional yeast and activated almonds. One of my sneaky favourites for the kids is my Vitamix Organic Parsley and Mixed Berry Sorbet, sounds yuk, but tastes delicious and you can’t get much healthier sorbet than that!
