Organic Vegan Raw Chocolate Protein Spread Recipe
For vegans and vegetarians looking for a delicious, decadent high protein, raw chocolate treat you can’t beat this organic, low FODMAP Organic Vegan Raw Chocolate Protein Spread Recipe . Perfect as a healthier option to traditional choc sandwich spreads.
Important Nut Allergy Alert – as it does contain almonds this is not a chocolate spread that you can use in a school lunch sandwich due to the no nut policy most schools have. But by all means it is delicious on organic, spelt toast and as an after school healthy, sandwich, sweet treat.
Ingredients – all organic if possible
3/4 cup of sunflower seeds
1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds
1 cup of almond meal
1/2 cup of cacao powder
1/4 tsp Himalayan salt
5 tablespoons of rice bran syrup ( Pure Harvest is the only brand I know that test for arsenic levels in the rice)
Alternatively you can use either coconut or maple syrup (though both of these are sweeter than rice bran syrup so start with 3 tablespoons)
5 tablespoons of macadamia nut oil
1 rounded tablespoon of cold pressed coconut oil.
Method
1.Ground sunflower & pumpkin seeds to a semi-fine flour in a Vitamix or equivalent blender.
2.Empty into a glass bowl now either use Almond meal or grind a cup of raw almonds also into a semi fine flour.
3.Mix the almond meal through with the sunflower and pumpkin flour . Next sift in the raw cacaco powder and add your pinch of salt combine well with a wooden spoon.
4.In a small stainless steel saucepan on very low heat, whilst stirring continuously melt down the rice bran syrup, coconut oil and macadamia nut oil.
5.You want it to become a thinner runny liquid.
6.Then pour into the dry ingredients and mix well. Then pop it into a very clean, dry clean glass jar and seal as soon as possible. Match the size of the jar to the amount of spread you made, so that there is less air in the jar for bugs to grow.
Store in fridge for up to 2 weeks. Or at room temperature for 3 days.
As coconut oil solidifies in the fridge you will never to scrape out the amount you want with a strong spoon and then you can crumble it onto hot toast and it will melt down within a couple minutes and you can spread it properly.
Alternatively you could scrape out of the jar the amount of spread you want and then pop it in a bowl seated into a boil of boiling hot water to melt.
